Le Méridien Maldives hosts Bliss Care Foundation children for Day of Learning and Discovery
Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa recently welcomed 13 children aged six to ten from Bliss Care Foundation in Naifaru for a special visit filled with learning, creativity and playful moments. Held on Saturday, 10 October 2026, the initiative brought together the resort’s leadership team, associates and young visitors for an engaging introduction to sustainable practices and the world of hospitality, while strengthening ties with neighbouring communities.
The children, accompanied by their therapists and the foundation’s founders, Aishath Mirubah and Hussain Zeenee, were greeted by the resort team with welcome drinks before setting off on a morning of exploration across Thilamaafushi Island.

Their first stop was the resort’s 430-square-metre hydroponic greenhouse, one of the largest of its kind in the Maldives. Guided by Head Horticulturist Juby Thomas, the children explored how leafy greens, different varieties of lettuce and herbs are grown using hydroponic farming techniques. The interactive visit offered a glimpse into sustainable food production and the importance of caring for the natural environment.
Recently recognised as Maldives’ Leading Green Resort 2026 at the World Travel Awards, Le Méridien Maldives places environmental responsibility at the heart of its operations. Sharing these practices with younger generations forms an important part of the resort’s efforts to encourage environmental awareness and inspire curiosity about more sustainable ways of living.

From the greenhouse, the children continued their adventure with a visit to the resort’s largest villa, the three-bedroom Thilamaafushi Villa. The Housekeeping team welcomed them with a demonstration of bed decoration, offering a fun introduction to one of the many aspects of preparing a villa for guests. The experience continued at Turquoise, the resort’s all-day dining restaurant, where the Food & Beverage team offered a behind-the-scenes introduction to their daily work and the art of hospitality.
The final stop brought plenty of opportunities for play at Le Méridien Family Kids Hub, where the children enjoyed the indoor and outdoor recreational facilities. The morning concluded with a specially prepared lunch and individual gifts for each child. In a heartwarming exchange, the children also surprised General Manager Thomas Schult with a beautiful handmade thank-you gift, a gesture warmly appreciated by the resort team.

“Opening our doors to our neighbouring communities is always a pleasure, and there is something particularly special about welcoming children to our island,” said Thomas Schult, General Manager of Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa. “Our team was just as excited as our young visitors to share what makes Thilamaafushi special, from the greenhouse to the experiences that bring our resort to life. We hope this visit brought them joy, encouraged their curiosity and perhaps even planted a seed of inspiration for the future.”
Established in 2024, Bliss Care Foundation is a Naifaru-based organisation dedicated to supporting individuals with special needs and their families through specialised therapies, inclusive education and community engagement. The foundation currently provides therapeutic services to approximately 90 children, including speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioural therapy and special education. Beyond its ongoing programmes, the foundation organises supervised excursions that give children opportunities to explore new environments and participate in activities beyond their home island.

“At Bliss Care Foundation, we believe that every child deserves opportunities to explore, learn and experience the world beyond their familiar surroundings,” said Aishath Mirubah, Co-founder of Bliss Care Foundation. “This visit gave our children the opportunity to experience a resort environment, explore new facilities and meet the people who work behind the scenes. We are sincerely grateful to the team at Le Méridien Maldives for their warm hospitality and thoughtful arrangements in making this experience possible.”
The visit reflects the resort’s commitment to Marriott International’s Serve 360 sustainability and social impact platform, particularly its focus on nurturing local communities, encouraging responsible environmental practices and creating opportunities for inclusion. Through initiatives that connect associates with neighbouring islands, Le Méridien Maldives continues to strengthen its community engagement and create opportunities for meaningful exchanges.

“Being part of the Lhaviyani Atoll community means finding ways to extend our hospitality beyond our day-to-day operations,” said Mohamed Abdulla, Director of Human Resources at Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa. “Welcoming the children from Bliss Care Foundation was a wonderful opportunity for our associates to share their knowledge, spend time with our young neighbours and create moments of connection. Seeing the enthusiasm of both the children and our team reminds us how meaningful these initiatives can be.”
Through this visit, Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa reaffirms its commitment to community engagement, inclusion and shared learning, creating opportunities that bring people together and contribute positively to the communities around it.
