Maldives highlights tourism innovations at 2024 Tropical Coastal City Event in China
The Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) represented the Maldives at the recent ‘2024 Tropical Coastal City Tourism Event,’ held in Sanya, Hainan, China, from September 4-5. This prestigious event, supported by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), was organised by the Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, TV, and Sports of Sanya City, along with the Sanya Tourism Board.
The Maldives delegation was led by Mr. Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz, Chairperson of MMPRC, and Mr. Ibrahim Shiuree, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD). During the Thematic Sharing session, the Chairperson delivered an impactful speech titled “The Maldives Story & Innovative Tourism Marketing for Tropical Cities.” He highlighted the unique aspects that make the Maldives a world-renowned holiday destination and shared the innovative marketing approaches MMPRC employs to promote the tropical paradise.
CEO & MD Shiuree participated as a panelist in a session titled “Insight Sessions: International Tourism Marketing.” He addressed key issues such as public-private collaboration, the importance of enhancing the skills of tourism professionals, and the diversification of Maldives’ tourism offerings to ensure equitable distribution of tourism revenue throughout the country.
“Our tourism industry’s success relies on a unified vision between the public and private sectors, driving responsible tourism practices and fostering sustainable growth,” remarked CEO & MD Shiuree during the panel.
The 2024 Tropical Coastal City Tourism Event served as a valuable platform for sharing insights, networking with industry leaders, and exploring sustainable development opportunities in tropical coastal regions. In addition to thematic sharing and insightful sessions, the event featured activities such as discussions on sustainable tourism, indigenous tourism, global tourism quality, and a business matching session. MMPRC’s participation provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the Maldives’ innovative tourism marketing strategies and its role as a top global tropical destination.
