Maldives named World’s Leading Destination for fifth year, unveils new airport signage
The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) hosted a special event to celebrate the Maldives’ achievements at the World Travel Awards 2024. The Maldives secured the title of the World’s Leading Destination for the fifth consecutive year and, for the first time, the title of the World’s Leading Green Destination. The event took place on November 27, 2024, at the Waterfront, Velana International Airport.
The celebration was attended by the Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal; the CEO and Managing Director of MMPRC, Ibrahim Shiuree; and the CEO and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed.
During the event, Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of MMPRC, expressed his satisfaction with the recognition. He highlighted that these awards reflected the Maldives’ unwavering dedication to delivering exceptional travel experiences and promoting sustainable tourism practices. He also acknowledged the hard work and commitment of stakeholders in the tourism industry, who have consistently worked to position the Maldives as a world-class destination.
The event included the unveiling of new “Maldives signage” at Velana International Airport, commemorating the destination’s achievements and further enhancing its global brand visibility.
With these accolades and a continued focus on sustainability, the Maldives aims to strengthen its position as a leading global travel destination. These achievements are expected to contribute significantly to the growth and success of the country’s tourism industry.
