Maldives opens bids for new resort developments in northern atolls
The Ministry of Tourism and Environment on Thursday invited bids for the development and operation of tourist resorts in the northern atolls, as well as islands and lagoons in Laamu Atoll.
The ministry said the tender process covers locations in Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani and Laamu atolls. The plots announced for resort development include:
Haa Alif Atoll:
- HA. Maadhuni Faru 1 – 200 hectares
- HA. Maadhuni Faru 2 – 200 hectares
- HA. Maadhuni Faru 3 – 200 hectares
- HA. Kela Lagoon 1 – 156.2 hectares
- HA. Kela Lagoon 2 – 169.3 hectares
Haa Dhaalu Atoll:
- HDh. Makunudhoo Faru 1 – 200 hectares
- HDh. Makunudhoo Faru 2 – 200 hectares
- HDh. Maafaru Faru 1 – 200 hectares
- HDh. Maafaru Faru 2 – 200 hectares
- HDh. Maafaru Faru 3 – 200 hectares
Shaviyani Atoll:
- Sh. Gona Faru 1 – 200 hectares
- Sh. Gona Faru 2 – 200 hectares
- Sh. Gona Faru 3 – 200 hectares
In addition, five sites were opened for the development of resorts operating under the halal tourism model:
- HA. Beenafushi (2.21 hectares) and Kandaalifinolhu (5.05 hectares)
- HDh. Makunudhoo Faru 1 – 200 hectares
- Sh. Furifaru – 4.34 hectares
- L. Fonagaadhoo – 8.18 hectares
The ministry also released key information on the tender schedule:
- Information sessions: 9 December and 6 January at 9 a.m., to be held virtually
- Issuance of bid documents: 23 November to 2 February, available from the Ministry of Tourism
- Application form: Available on the ministry website
- Bid submission deadline: 3 February at 9 a.m.
Bids will be evaluated in accordance with the ministry’s established procedures.
