Maldives Safety and Security Conference 2026 begins with focus on tourism risks
The Maldives Safety and Security Conference 2026 began on Tuesday, bringing together tourism industry representatives, government agencies and security professionals to discuss risks facing the tourism sector and measures to address them.
Organised by the Maldives Association of Fire and Safety Service Industry (MAFSSI), the two-day conference is being held at Barceló Nasandhura and will continue on Wednesday.
Between 150 and 200 participants are expected to attend, including representatives of resorts and guesthouses, security managers, engineers, safety officers, government agencies, police, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), fire and rescue services, technology providers and the insurance sector.
The conference will feature panel discussions on areas related to safety and security, with industry professionals and officials participating in the sessions.
Topics include regulatory perspectives and public-sector responsibilities, public-private collaboration, security governance in tourism organisations, destination security and international lessons, risk assessment and security planning, emergency preparedness and incident response, human factors and organisational culture, cybersecurity in the tourism industry, and professional development and industry standards.
The Safety and Security Conference Maldives 2026 has received endorsements from government ministries and tourism industry associations, including the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, Ministry of Tourism and Environment, Ministry of Defence, Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) and National Hotels and Guesthouse Association of Maldives (NHGAM).
The conference is also supported by international organisations and private-sector companies.

In addition to presentations and panel discussions, the programme includes workshops examining human, technological and legal issues affecting safety and security in the Maldives.
Organisers said the conference is intended to provide a platform for participants to exchange information and experience, examine developments in technology, discuss challenges facing the sector and strengthen cooperation between government agencies and private-sector organisations.
