Maldives sees 14% hike in tourist arrivals in July

The Maldives witnessed a 14% increase in tourist arrivals in July, with 160,000 visitors gracing the islands, according to the Ministry of Tourism. This marks a notable rise from the 140,000 tourists recorded in July of the previous year, adding an extra 20,000 visitors this year.

This uptick comes after a dip in numbers over the past two months, signalling a positive trend for the hospitality sector.

From January to July this year, the Maldives welcomed 1.1 million tourists, a 9.6% increase compared to the 1 million arrivals during the same period in 2023. The government has set an ambitious target of 2 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year, requiring an average of 180,000 visitors per month for the remaining months.

China leads the way in tourist numbers with 157,000 visitors, followed by Russia with 125,000, and the UK with 104,000 tourists so far this year.
