MMPRC conducts meetings for sustainable tourism development in south Maldives

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/ Visit Maldives) has successfully concluded a preliminary meetings between the tourism industry and Addu stakeholders.

Held on 4th of April hosted by South Palm Maldives and Canareef Resort Maldives, the meeting kickstarted arrangements for the South Region Symposium to be held later this year. The event, spanning two days, aligned with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to sustainable tourism development in the Southern Maldives. These meetings were intended to facilitate effective partnerships vital for the sustainable development of the tourism sector in Addu City and surrounding areas.

On the morning of 4th April, a dedicated Gan International Airport meeting was held, providing an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss pertinent matters related to regional tourism infrastructure and development. Additionally, the ‘Preliminary Meeting with Addu Stakeholders’, hosted by South Palm Maldives, provided a rich platform for local government officials, business leaders, community representatives, and tourism industry professionals to voice their perspectives, share insights, and contribute to shaping the future of tourism in the region.

The ‘Preliminary Meeting with Addu Stakeholders’ commenced with an opening statement by the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD) of MMPRC, Fathmath Thaufeeq. Her statement set the tone for the discussions, emphasising the importance of collaboration in driving tourism growth while preserving the cultural and environmental heritage of the Southern Maldives.

Following her remarks, the Maldives Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal, delivered a statement highlighting the government’s vision for tourism development in the Southern region and outlining key strategies to promote sustainable tourism practices that equitably benefit tourists and local communities.

The President’s Advisor Khaleel addressed next, noting the government’s strategic vision for the South region.

Additionally, the Minister of Finance, Dr Mohamed Shafeeq provided insights about the financial incentives supporting tourism projects in Addu, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and prosperity in the region.

Furthermore, the Managing Director of Maldivian, Ibrahim Iyas delivered his statement, focusing on the work carried by Island Aviation to enhance Southern connectivity and bolster tourism development efforts in the region.

Prior to concluding the preliminary meetings, the stakeholders engaged in an interactive Q&A session, allowing the community to voice their concerns, share insights, and propose solutions.
