Nexia Maldives holds sustainability event at Summer Island Maldives

Nexia Maldives partnered with Summer Island Maldives to host a one-day sustainability event on 25th January 2024, to mark Nexia Week in the Maldives. Nexia Week is a week-long event organised annually by Nexia, a global network of independent accounting and consulting firms.

Established in 2007, Nexia Maldives (formerly FJS – Consulting, Tax, Assurance) is a leading consultancy firm in the Maldives offering a comprehensive range of services, including socio-economic research, policy consulting, development planning, management and financial consulting, and tax and assurance services.

This year’s Nexia Week focuses on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) themes. The gathering welcomed both local and international delegates. During the event, participants learned about Summer Island Maldives’ sustainability initiatives, including its reef generation efforts in the Blue Lagoon, an impressive coral nursery, and its 3-D printed reef, recognized as the largest of its kind by Guinness World Records. The participants also undertook a coral planting initiative during the event.

Speaking about the event, Hamid Sodique, Managing Director of Nexia Maldives, said, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Summer Island Maldives to mark Nexia Week and raise awareness about the critical impact of climate change on coral reefs. This partnership highlights the vulnerability of our natural environment and emphasizes how our livelihoods are directly impacted. By learning about and addressing these challenges together, we hope to foster a deeper understanding and commitment to preserving our precious and valuable ecosystems.”

“We are honoured to partner with Nexia Maldives to host their celebratory event to mark Nexia Week and showcase the sustainability efforts at Summer Island Maldives,” said Mariya Shareef, General Manager of Kaimoo Travels and Hotel Services Pvt Ltd.

Nestled just a 45-minute speedboat journey or a 5-minute seaplane ride from Velana International Airport, Summer Island Maldives is a captivating barefoot beach destination with a stellar reputation for its dedication to environmental sustainability. The resort has implemented several initiatives, including the phased elimination of single-use plastics, the utilisation of renewable energy sources, the installation of the world’s largest 3D coral reef, and an eco-friendly strategy to eradicate mosquitoes. In recognition of its sustainability initiatives, Summer Island Maldives was awarded Leading Eco-Friendly Resort by South Asian Travel Awards (SATA), in 2023.

The event celebrating Nexia Week in the Maldives promises to further solidify Summer Island Maldives’ position as a premier destination for both leisure and corporate events.
