Royal Island Resort hosts CHSE students for sustainability and marine conservation programme
Royal Island Resort & Spa Maldives recently welcomed students from the Environment Club of the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Hulhumalé Campus, for an educational visit focused on environmental conservation, sustainability and the island’s history.
During the visit, the students were introduced to the resort’s environmental and sustainability initiatives, learning about the measures implemented to protect the island’s ecosystem. They also toured several operational departments to gain an understanding of how different areas of the resort contribute to its sustainability objectives.

The programme also included a presentation on the history of Royal Island, which was once an inhabited island before its residents relocated to nearby Dhonfanu Island in the late 1800s. The island was later developed into the resort it is today.
As part of the visit, the students took part in the resort’s coral propagation programme conducted by the diveOceanus Maldives team. They planted coral trays on the house reef before joining a guided snorkelling excursion to observe the reef’s marine biodiversity and the progress of ongoing conservation efforts.

The visit concluded with lunch prepared by the resort’s culinary team led by Executive Chef Faiz Idrees.
Commenting on the initiative, Royal Island Resort & Spa Maldives General Manager Nasrulla Ali said the resort believes educating and inspiring younger generations is key to protecting the Maldives’ environment.

He added that by welcoming local students and communities to the resort, the team hopes to encourage a greater appreciation of the country’s natural heritage and the shared responsibility of conserving it for future generations.

The resort thanked the CHSE Environment Club for its visit and said it looks forward to continuing to support environmental education and conservation initiatives in the Maldives.
