Safeguarding Maldives tourism is priority, Minister Thoriq says

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment is monitoring the developing situation in the Middle East, according to a statement from Minister Thoriq Ibrahim. The government is working with partners across the tourism industry and other stakeholders on the matter.

The minister’s statement, released on the social media platform X, follows reports of flight disruptions in the Gulf region which have affected some schedules at Velana International Airport.

“Our thoughts are with those who are impacted and our priority is to safeguard the seamless operation of our tourism sector and ensure the safety and well-being of all travellers,” Thoriq stated.

He confirmed that the government is in communication with all relevant parties to manage the situation. The focus remains on maintaining the country’s tourism operations and ensuring the security of visitors. The Middle East is a key transit hub for tourists travelling to the Maldives. The government continues to observe air corridor activity and liaise with airlines to maintain travel routes to the nation.
