Summer Island reopens after total renovation

The Summer Island Resort has reopened and welcomed back its first guests after renovations and refurbishments.
A soft opening took place on March 1, said Mariya Shareef, Manager of Business Development, Marketing and Sales at Kaimoo Travels & Hotel Services Pvt Ltd, which operates Summer Island.
“The official opening will be 1st June 2015,” she noted.
After closing down in May last year, Summer Island has undergone a total renovation and is now offering a variety of new accommodation options and facilities.
“We have gone through a major renovation. We have now a total of 156 Rooms – 1 beach house (2 bedroom suite), 20 water villas, 16 premium beach villas, 30 superior vistas, 30 superior beach, 52 superior bungalows, and 7 garden rooms,” Mariya explained.
“We have also completely built a new main restaurant on the land (Samuga), our main bar is completely refurbished (Nevi), a Beach Bar (Baraveli), an over water main restaurant (Hiya) catering for premium beach villa and water villa guests, over water a la carte restaurant and bar (Avi Lounge & Deck) and completely new over water spa (Firuma by Serena Spa), a completely new gym and pilate studio, boutique and jewelry shop, a dive centre (Feena water sports and dive centre by Diverland), a completely new walk-in infinity pool, a new reception building – almost all the facilities and accommodation are completely changed, and upgraded to 4 star standard.”
The Serena over-the-water spa offers a variety of treatments plus a steam room and ice room.
Prior to its reopening, 35% of bookings at the resort were by repeat visitors.
Summer Island is located on the Ziyaaraifushi Island in Kaafu atoll, accessible via a 40-minute speedboat ride from the capital Male’ or the international airport.
Summer Island is operated by Kaimoo, a family-owned business established in January 1979.
