Tourism Minister meets MATI, fuel suppliers on Middle East impact
Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has held discussions with the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) and leading fuel suppliers to assess the impact of the ongoing situation in the Middle East on the Maldives.
According to the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, the meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange views and raise key concerns related to the evolving regional developments and their potential implications for the tourism sector and fuel supply chains.

The meeting was led by Minister Thoriq Ibrahim from the ministry, while MATI Secretary General Asad Ali represented the tourism industry.

In a post shared by the ministry, it was noted that the discussions focused on addressing matters raised by stakeholders, particularly in relation to operational challenges and external risks linked to the Middle East situation.

Industry stakeholders have expressed concern in recent weeks over possible disruptions to fuel supply and increased costs, as well as broader impacts on travel demand and connectivity, given the Maldives’ reliance on international aviation routes that transit through the region.
The engagement with MATI and fuel suppliers forms part of ongoing consultations by the government to monitor developments and coordinate responses aimed at maintaining stability in the tourism sector.
Tourism remains the Maldives’ main economic sector, and authorities have continued to engage with industry partners to mitigate risks arising from external shocks and ensure continuity of operations.
