Universal Foundation renews support for Maldives Red Crescent
Universal Foundation and the Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) have renewed their longstanding partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on 26 April 2026.
The agreement was signed by Universal Foundation President Iyaz Waheed and Maldives Red Crescent Secretary General Ahmed Shabin.
Under the renewed arrangement, Universal Foundation will continue its support for MRC as a Gold Tier sponsor under the Partners for Humanity initiative, helping the organisation maintain and expand its humanitarian work across the Maldives.
Among the notable collaborations between the two organisations was the first Health Camp held in 2016. The programme was aimed at improving access to specialised healthcare by providing consultations in areas including cardiology, mental health and paediatrics. Conducted over two days in Gn. Fuvahmulah and M. Kolhufushi, the camp brought together seven healthcare professionals and directly served 479 patients, while also reaching others through consultations and awareness sessions.
Universal Foundation has also supported MRC’s Patient Transport Service, which was originally launched with assistance from the Singapore Red Cross. With continued support, the service has since developed into an established and ongoing programme.
The Maldives Red Crescent, as a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, has been delivering humanitarian services across the Maldives for more than 17 years. Its work includes training programmes, aid campaigns, targeted services and public awareness initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable communities.
Since its establishment, Universal Foundation has focused on community support through strategic partnerships and assistance initiatives, including disaster relief efforts.
The renewed agreement reflects the continued cooperation between the two organisations in supporting humanitarian programmes and community-based services across the country.
