Visit Maldives Week: showcasing Maldivian tourism across Russia
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) is organising an initiative titled ‘Visit Maldives Week’ in collaboration with 22 representatives from 14 different companies within the Maldivian tourism industry. This week-long event is designed to highlight the diverse offerings of the Maldives as a premier travel destination for the Russian market across three major cities in Russia.
‘Visit Maldives Week’ in Russia marks the first in a series of global roadshows planned throughout the year in both major and emerging tourist markets. The roadshows targeting the Russian market are taking place in St. Petersburg on February 3rd, Moscow on February 5th, and Tyumen on February 7th. The initiative aims to facilitate new business partnerships, strengthen existing collaborations, and provide updated information about the Maldives as a travel destination.
To enhance the visitor experience, interactive photo zones have been set up, showcasing the beauty of Maldivian islands and properties. Additionally, a media meet is scheduled in Moscow to deliver tailored information to travel trade media and press representatives. A ‘Maldives Passport’ activity, featuring interactive questions, is being conducted to engage attendees and offer them a chance to win prizes. The roadshows also include productive B2B meetings, networking sessions, and destination workshops, fostering valuable connections while promoting the Maldives as a leading travel destination. During the event in St. Petersburg, attendees will have an opportunity to win a holiday prize sponsored by Canareef Resort Maldives, which includes a two-night full-board stay with return transfers for two people.
The Visit Maldives team has planned several upcoming activities targeting the Russian market, including a webinar series, campaigns with tour operators and airlines, public relations initiatives, media familiarisation trips, and collaborations with Destination Management Companies.
Tourist arrivals from Russia to the Maldives have shown steady growth over the years. In 2024, Russia was the second-largest source market for the Maldives, maintaining the same ranking in the current year with 20,902 arrivals recorded in January. Visit Maldives aims to further solidify the Maldives’ position as the top destination for Russian travellers and remains confident that the roadshow series will contribute to strengthening the destination’s appeal in Russia.
