Taj Exotica Resort & Spa to Develop One of Maldives’ Largest Floating Solar Parks

Taj Exotica Resort & Spa has signed an agreement with Swimsol to construct a floating solar park. When the solar park opens in 2024, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa will operate with one of the lowest carbon footprints in Maldives.

Taj Exotica Resort & Spa is a pioneer in sustainable tourism. The solar park is estimated to save 1,189 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year. Diesel consumption will reduce annually by 4,39,000 liters. The solar park is not only good for the environment but the resort will become more serene as it is estimated noise pollution will decrease by 40%.

Corinna Luebbe, Cluster General Manager Maldives, said “We are proud to partner with Swimsol for one of the largest Solar Parks in Maldives. This is in line with IHCL’s ESG+ framework of Paathya with its commitment towards energy conservation and the long-term goal of deriving no less than 50 percent of energy across all hotels from renewable sources by 2030. With the solar park going on stream in 2024, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa will operate with one of the lowest carbon footprints in Maldives.”

She added, “Taj Exotica’s innovative and rigorous sustainability efforts have earned global accolades, including an EarthCheck Platinum Certification from 2019 to 2022, making it the first resort in the Maldives to achieve the honor.”

The solar park will be equipped with an extraordinary battery backup allowing the resort to shut down the island’s generator between 8 AM to 5 PM. Taj Exotica will be the first resort in the Maldives able to shut down the generator during daylight hours.

The floating solar platforms will not harm marine life as they will float above the reefs and offer shelter to aqua fauna.
