Visit Maldives launches nationwide landmark design competition to showcase local talent

The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) has announced a nationwide competition aimed at designing landmarks to be installed in iconic locations such as Velana International Airport, Male’ City, underwater sites, and other islands throughout the Maldives outside of the Greater Male’ area. This exciting initiative is designed to showcase the unique charm of the Maldives, highlight local artistic talents, and enhance the tourist experience in the Sunny Side of Life.

The competition is open to all Maldivian citizens aged 18 and above, encouraging widespread participation. Participants are invited to express their creativity and sense of national pride by submitting designs for landmarks that embody the essence of the Maldives, reflecting the rich heritage, culture, and stunning natural beauty of their specific regions.

The top 10 designs will be selected through a combination of evaluations conducted by a panel of technical judges and a public vote. Each winner will receive a cash prize of MVR 20,000 along with a gift package courtesy of the competition’s sponsors. Furthermore, all top 10 designs will be showcased and utilised in MMPRC’s marketing activities, with proper credit given to the designers.

Designs must be crafted sustainably, with a maximum height of 20 feet. Each landmark should represent the specific island or area it is designated for, incorporating historical context, local activities, and unique characteristics. The judging panel will consider creativity, safety, longevity, and visual appeal as key factors.

Entries for the competition must be submitted via email by 6:00 PM on November 30, 2024, to contest@visitmaldives.com. Each participant may submit a design for one landmark, with clear dimensions specified in both CAD and PDF formats. Additionally, a visual representation of the proposed location (optional) and a completed application form (mandatory) along with a copy of a valid National ID are required for a successful entry. For further inquiries, participants can reach out to contest@visitmaldives.com.

Visit Maldives aims to showcase a wealth of artistic talent within the Maldives through this landmark design competition. The winning designs will not only beautify the islands but also serve as symbols of Maldivian creativity and cultural heritage, further captivating tourists and strengthening the brand of Sunny Side of Life in the global tourism arena.
