Maldives’ tourist arrivals rise 4.6% in January 2026; crosses 224,000
Tourist arrivals to the Maldives increased by 4.6 per cent last month compared with the same period last year, according to official statistics.
Data released by the Ministry of Tourism Thursday show that 224,788 tourists arrived in the Maldives last month. Based on the figures, the country recorded an average of more than 7,000 tourist arrivals per day during the period.
The ministry said arrivals last month exceeded the previous February record, when 217,392 tourists visited the Maldives.
According to the ministry’s statistics, the highest number of tourists last month arrived from the following countries:
- Russia: 29,370
- Italy: 23,171
- China: 22,676
- United Kingdom: 20,478
- Germany: 14,028
- India: 8,413
- France: 7,751
- United States: 6,353
- Poland: 6,041
- Austria: 4,585
The data show that 68 per cent of tourists stayed at resorts, while 26.6 per cent stayed at guesthouses.
By the end of last year, total tourist arrivals reached 2.2 million, which was below the government’s target of 2.3 million visitors.
The Maldives aims to attract 2.4 million tourists this year, according to the ministry.
