Universal Foundation invites applications for medical scholarships
The Universal Foundation has officially opened its annual scholarship opportunities on 15th February 2026, as part of its continued commitment to nurturing local talent and addressing national skill shortages in the Maldives.
Currently, three scholarships are open for applications. Medical specialisation opportunities are aimed at catering to upcoming doctors aiming to specialise in various subfields of healthcare. Two openings are offered under this opportunity for those meeting the eligibility criteria.
Medical Specialisation Scholarship
- Level: Masters
- Countries: Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand
- Number of Scholarships offered: Two
- Duration: 2-3 years
- Deadline: 15th May 2026

The Universal Foundation is also offering a scholarship in memory of the late Dr Ibrahim Umar Maniku. This opportunity is offered to one eligible applicant in one of the critical areas of internal medicine.
Scholarship in Memory of Late Dr Maniku
- Level: Postgraduate
- Countries: Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand
- Number of Scholarships offered: One
- Duration: 2-3 years
- Deadline: 15th May 2026

Universal Foundation has been dedicated to developing human resources that benefit the nation for many years, with a strong focus on sectors where skilled professionals are critically needed, particularly healthcare and tourism.
Through its initiatives, the Foundation has been awarded a total of over 100 scholarships across a wide range of fields. While many focus on health and tourism, scholarships have also supported studies in education, business, engineering, IT, and other disciplines, helping to build a diverse and capable workforce.
Currently, nine fully funded scholars are studying abroad, specialising in various areas of medicine, including oncology, surgery, paediatrics, colorectal surgery, and other medical fields, contributing to the long-term strengthening of the country’s healthcare system.
In addition, Universal Foundation has completed the 7th batch of its Discover Hospitality Programme, with 30 participants now awaiting graduation. And the batch will be announced soon.
As part of its broader mission to enhance community well-being through humanitarian efforts, Universal Foundation continues to work closely with NGOs and community partners, investing in programs designed to create lasting positive impact. Several collaborative initiatives are planned to be showcased throughout 2026.
