MIC Group promotes Ahmed Shifan to Group Director of Procurement

Maldives Inflight Catering Group has announced the promotion of Ahmed Shifan from Corporate Head of Procurement to Group Director of Procurement.

Shifan joined MIC Group in December 2025 as Corporate Head of Procurement, bringing more than 20 years of experience within the Maldivian hospitality industry. Since joining the Group, he has provided strategic leadership across procurement operations, contributing to the strengthening of sourcing practices, supplier management, cost controls and procurement processes.

Commenting on the promotion, Ali Shakir, Group General Manager of MIC Group, said “Since joining MIC Group, Shifan has demonstrated strong leadership, commercial understanding and a clear commitment to strengthening our procurement function. His extensive industry experience and ability to align procurement strategies with the operational needs of our diverse businesses make him well suited to this expanded role. We are confident that he will continue to deliver greater efficiency, value and consistency across the Group.”

Prior to joining MIC Group, Shifan served as Group Purchasing Manager at Atoll Estates, supporting the development of Zamaani Island. He also spent more than five years with Accor, progressing from Purchasing Manager at Mercure Maldives Kooddoo to Cluster Purchasing Manager overseeing procurement for both Mercure Maldives Kooddoo and Pullman Maldives Maamutaa.

His extensive hospitality career also includes procurement roles with Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts, Amilla Fushi and Jumeirah Vittaveli Maldives. He began his career in resort finance, gaining experience with renowned properties including Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, Coco Palm Bodu Hithi, Herathera Island Resort, Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi and Lhohifushi Island Resort.

In his new role, Shifan will lead the Group’s overall procurement strategy across its inflight catering and hospitality operations. His responsibilities will include strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations and partnerships, contract management, cost-control initiatives, procurement compliance, systems development and the continued development of the procurement team.

Expressing his appreciation, Ahmed Shifan said “I am grateful to the management of MIC Group for the confidence and trust placed in me. Since joining the Group, I have had the opportunity to work closely with our teams and gain a deeper understanding of the diverse operational requirements across our businesses. In this new role, my focus will be on strengthening our Group-wide procurement framework, developing reliable and sustainable supplier partnerships, and ensuring that procurement continues to deliver quality, efficiency and long-term value to the organisation.”

Shifan’s promotion reflects both his valuable contribution since joining MIC Group and the confidence placed in his leadership as the Group continues to strengthen its procurement function.
