Alila Kothaifaru Maldives launches partnership to support sustainability efforts

Alila Kothaifaru Maldives, a luxurious eco-resort nestled in the pristine Raa Atoll, has announced the launch of its latest initiative in partnership with Giving Bag. Giving Bag provides an innovative amenity program that aims to intertwine sustainability efforts with community support by providing guests with an opportunity to contribute to local orphanages while reducing waste.

The concept behind Giving Bag is simple yet impactful. Each guestroom at Alila Kothaifaru will be equipped with a designated bag where guests can deposit clothes or snorkelling equipment they no longer need or want. These items will then be collected by the resort’s green team, washed, and delivered to the Kuda Kudhinge Hiya orphanage. By repurposing slightly used clothing, the initiative not only supports those in need but also promotes sustainable practices by extending the lifespan of clothing and reducing textile waste.

The resort’s green team met with the Ministry of Social and Family Development to discuss collaborative initiatives. During the meeting, the Deputy Minister Aminath Namza highlighted efforts to foster compassion and love in society, including a new adoption programme and internships for orphans. She emphasised, “Through collaboration, we can create a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

“At Alila Kothaifaru Maldives, we are committed to making a positive impact on both the environment and the local community,” said Thomas Weber, General Manager of Alila Kothaifaru Maldives. “Our partnership with Giving Bag aligns perfectly with our sustainability goals by promoting reuse and reducing waste. Additionally, we are thrilled to be able to support the Kuda Kudhinge Hiya orphanage and contribute to the well-being of children in our community.”

“Giving Bag is proud to be partnering with Alila Kothaifaru Maldives to support the Kuda Kudhinge Hiya orphanage,” said Quinn Cox, the CEO of Giving Bag. “Alila Hotels & Resorts are leaders in sustainability and environmental protection, and we are thrilled that we can continue to bring Giving Bag to new corners of the world. We created Giving Bag to help travellers and hotels have a stronger local impact, and we are confident that Alila Kothaifaru Maldives will be able to achieve that.”

The Kuda Kudhinge Hiya orphanage is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing shelter, education, and support to orphaned and underprivileged children in the Maldives. Through partnerships with local businesses like Alila Kothaifaru Maldives, the orphanage aims to create a nurturing environment where children can thrive and fulfil their potential.

Alila Kothaifaru Maldives partnership with the Giving Bag initiative exemplifies the resort’s commitment to sustainability, community engagement, and responsible tourism practices. By inviting guests to participate in this meaningful endeavor, the resort hopes to inspire others to take action and make a positive difference in the world.
