EU Recovery Grants Extended for Local Tourism Businesses

Guesthouses and safaris can apply for the European Union (EU) grant project “EU Support for a Resilient Recovery of SME Tourism Industry in the Maldives” until end of August 2022.

As part of the project, EU provided EUR 2 million (nearly MVR 36 million) to help the local tourism industry to recover from the COVID-19 crisis. From this, a total of EUR 1.4 million (around MVR 25 million) was allocated for SME recovery grants.

According to a statement by Maldives Fund Management Corporation (MFMC), 443 grant applications were received till end of May 2022. Out of the total applications received, a payment of MVR 13.1 million has been made to 346 eligible establishments till date.
