February sees third daily arrivals record for Maldives tourism; 11,136 on February 14

The Maldives recorded its highest number of tourist arrivals in a single day on 14 February, marking the third daily arrivals record in the month.

According to figures released on Sunday by the Ministry of Tourism, a total of 11,136 tourists arrived in the Maldives on 14 February. The previous daily records this month were recorded on 1 February, with 10,253 arrivals, and on 8 February, with 10,462 arrivals.

The ministry said total tourist arrivals so far this year have reached 349,990, representing an increase of 7.6 per cent compared to the same period last year. The average daily arrival figure stands at more than 7,777 tourists.

China was the leading source market, with 49,704 visitors recorded so far this year, accounting for 14.2 per cent of total arrivals. Russia followed with 40,141 tourists, while Italy ranked third with 34,320 visitors.

Other key source markets included the United Kingdom with 32,563 arrivals, Germany with 21,558, India with 19,920, France with 11,998, the United States with 9,524, Poland with 8,960, and Austria with 7,348.

The data shows that 68.1 per cent of tourists stayed at resorts, 26.9 per cent at guesthouses, 2.8 per cent at hotels, and 2.1 per cent on liveaboard vessels.

The government has set a target of attracting 2.5 million tourists to the Maldives this year.
