Hong Kong Airlines resumes Maldives flights

Hong Kong Airlines resumed direct scheduled flights to Maldives on Friday.

Hong Kong Airlines first launched chartered direct flights to Maldives in 2011. Scheduled flights began in 2018 and continued until the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020.

A special ceremony was held at Velana International Airport to mark the occasion, commemorating the arrival of Hong Kong Airlines flight HX791 from Hong Kong International Airport Friday evening. The tourists were greeted with the traditional Bodu Beru and a vibrant cultural performance, and were presented with a special gift pack, including flowers.

With the resumption of flights on Friday, the airline will operate three flights a week — every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday — between Male and Hong Kong.

Flight times (local times):

  • Hong Kong (3:40 pm) – Male (7:35 pm)
  • Male (9:20 pm) – Hong Kong (6:35 am)
