Maldives records 2.25 million tourist arrivals in 2025
The Ministry of Tourism said 2.25 million tourists visited the Maldives in 2025, falling short of the government’s target of 2.3 million arrivals for the year.
Statistics released by the ministry on Saturday show that, despite an increase in arrivals compared with previous years, the annual target was not met. The shortfall stood at 153,000 visitors.
Tourist arrivals in 2025 increased by 9.8 per cent compared with the previous year, with an average of 6,155 visitors entering the country per day.
Total arrivals over the past three years were recorded as follows:
- 2025: 2.25 million
- 2024: 2.05 million
- 2023: 1.88 million
The highest number of arrivals in 2025 was recorded during the year-end holiday period. In December alone, 224,455 tourists arrived in the Maldives, representing a 7.4 per cent increase compared with 208,980 arrivals in December of the previous year.
Of the 2.25 million tourists who arrived in 2025, around 1.6 million, or 73 per cent, stayed at resorts. About 500,000 tourists, or 22 per cent, visited guesthouses, while more than 58,000 stayed at hotels.
The six largest source markets for tourism in 2025 were:

According to the ministry, these six countries are expected to remain the leading source markets, with no change in ranking.
