Maldives records over 900,000 tourist arrivals in 2025

The number of tourists visiting the Maldives this year has surpassed 900,000, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

As of 14 May, a total of 901,210 tourists had arrived in the country. This represents an 8% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Data from the ministry indicates that an average of 5,000 tourists arrive in the Maldives each day.

A majority of visitors—71% or 640,026 tourists—spent their holidays in resorts. Guesthouses accounted for 23.5% of tourist accommodation, with 211,584 visitors. Hotels hosted 3% of arrivals, equivalent to 26,634 tourists, while 2.5% or 22,380 tourists stayed on liveaboard vessels.

The highest number of tourists came from China, with 103,072 visitors, making up 11.4% of total arrivals. Russia followed with 97,123 tourists, while 93,043 arrived from the United Kingdom. Italy recorded 79,557 arrivals, and 69,283 tourists travelled from Germany.

The government has set a target of 2.5 million tourist arrivals for the year.
