
Maldives records over half a million tourists by mid-March
The number of tourists visiting the Maldives has increased by 5%, surpassing half a million arrivals by mid-March.
According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment:
- 506,053 tourists arrived in the Maldives as of 12 March.
- This is an increase of 22,052 tourists compared to the same period last year, reflecting a 5% growth.
The Tourism Ministry reported that the Maldives currently receives an average of 7,241 tourists per day. China remains the top source market for tourists, while India is ranked sixth. The top six source markets include:
- China – 63,805 tourists (12.6% of total arrivals)
- United Kingdom – 51,466 tourists (10.2%)
- Russia – 51,439 tourists (10.2%)
- Italy – 47,792 tourists (9.4%)
- Germany – 34,116 tourists (6.7%)
- India – 24,167 tourists (4.8%)
There are 63,163 beds available across 1,182 registered tourist establishments in the Maldives. Of the total arrivals, 69% stayed at resorts, while the remaining visitors opted for:
- 25.6% in guesthouses
- 2.9% in hotels
- 2.4% in liveaboards
The government has set a target of 2.5 million tourist arrivals for 2025. By mid-March, 20% of this target has been achieved.
While tourist arrivals in February declined compared to the same month last year, current trends indicate that monthly arrivals are expected to increase by the end of March.
