Maldives sets new daily tourism arrival record on Sunday with 10,253

A total of 10,253 tourists visited the Maldives on Sunday, marking the highest number of tourist arrivals recorded in a single day, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The previous highest daily arrival figure was recorded on 10 February 2024, when 10,213 tourists entered the country.

The ministry said the record daily figure follows the highest monthly total recorded last month. A total of 224,788 tourists arrived during the month, setting a new monthly record.

The Ministry of Tourism said the figures reflect current trends in tourist arrivals and ongoing promotional efforts. According to the ministry, the Maldives now receives an average of more than 7,000 tourists per day.

Tourism data released by the ministry show that 235,041 tourists have arrived so far this year, representing an increase of 4.8 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The countries accounting for the highest number of arrivals are:

  1. Russia: 30,484
  2. China: 24,576
  3. Italy: 24,498
  4. United Kingdom: 21,354
  5. Germany: 14,671
  6. India: 8,690
  7. France: 8,122
  8. United States: 6,558
  9. Poland: 6,316
  10. Austria: 4,950

The ministry said 68 per cent of tourists stayed at resorts, while 26.6 per cent stayed at guesthouses.

By the end of last year, total tourist arrivals reached 2.2 million, below the government’s target of 2.3 million visitors.

The Maldives aims to attract 2.4 million tourists this year, according to the ministry.
