Panel discussion at Hotelier Maldives GM Forum 2023: How sustainable practices drive tourism business success

Hotelier Maldives General Managers (GM) Forum 2023 is pleased to announce a highly anticipated panel discussion titled “How Sustainable Practices Drive Business Success in the Tourism Industry.” The forum is scheduled to take place at Bandos Maldives on October 19, 2023.

The panel aims to delve into the intricacies of sustainability within the Maldives’ vibrant tourism industry, exploring both the benefits and challenges associated with implementing sustainable practices. The session will serve as a platform for industry experts to share best practices and recommendations for enhancing sustainability while simultaneously achieving business profitability.

Ibrahim Nasreen, Chief Commercial Officer at Public Service Media (PSM), will moderate the panel discussion, ensuring that insights and ideas flow freely. The panel will feature four distinguished panellists representing diverse segments of the industry, each bringing unique perspectives and experiences to the table:

  • Dr Simad Saeed: As the Managing Director of CDE Consulting, Saeed will provide insights into sustainability issues and opportunities within the Maldives’ tourism industry, particularly in the context of climate change, environmental degradation, and social development.
  • Mohamed Inaz: Serving as the Director of Climate Change & Sustainable Development at FJS, Mohamed Inaz will share his expertise on the environmental challenges and opportunities facing the industry, focusing on areas such as plastic pollution, water consumption, and coral damage.
  • Ahmed Maumoon: As the Chief Operations Officer of the Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA), Ahmed Maumoon will discuss the social implications of tourism development, emphasising the importance of local employment, community engagement, and cultural preservation.
  • Steven Stefaniuk: Drawing from his experience as the General Manager of Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi, Steven Stefaniuk will provide valuable insights into the practical benefits and challenges of implementing sustainable practices within the hospitality sector.

The panel discussion will span one hour and will revolve around four key questions:

  2. How do sustainable practices contribute to business success in the Maldives’ tourism industry? What are some of the benefits and challenges of implementing sustainable practices in your operations or projects?
  3. What are some of the best practices or recommendations for enhancing sustainability in the Maldives’ tourism industry? How can different stakeholders work together to achieve sustainability goals?
  4. How do you measure and communicate the impact of your sustainable practices in the Maldives’ tourism industry? What are some of the tools or indicators that you use or recommend?

This panel discussion promises to be a pivotal event within the Hotelier Maldives GM Forum 2023, offering attendees valuable insights into the critical role of sustainability in the Maldives’ tourism industry.
