Qatar Airways resumption to boost Maldives connectivity: Minister
Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has welcomed the resumption of scheduled flights by Qatar Airways to the Maldives, describing it as a positive development for both travellers and the tourism sector.
In a post shared on social media Thursday, the minister said the return of the airline’s services would be “welcome news for Maldivian travellers and visitors to Maldives”, noting the importance of restored air connectivity following recent disruptions.
He further described Qatar Airways as “a vital node” linking the Maldives to global markets, and expressed appreciation for the airline’s continued role in supporting the country’s tourism industry and international connectivity.
The resumption follows a temporary suspension of flights linked to airspace disruptions in the Middle East, which affected airline operations across the region. Qatar Airways has since reinstated services between Doha and Malé, initially operating multiple weekly flights with plans to adjust frequency based on demand and operational conditions.
Authorities have previously highlighted the impact of the disruption on the tourism sector, with hundreds of flights cancelled and a decline in visitor arrivals during the period.
Industry stakeholders expect the return of Qatar Airways operations to support the recovery of tourist flows, particularly from key markets that rely on Middle Eastern transit hubs.
The airline’s return is part of a broader resumption of international flight operations to the Maldives, as regional conditions stabilise and travel demand improves.
