RACL opens first airport in Meemu Atoll
Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) has announced the completion and opening of the Muli Airport, the first airport in Meemu Atoll.
Development work on the airport, located on M. Muli island, began in August 2021. A regulatory test flight was successfully carried out on 25 April 2025.
In a statement issued Thursday, RACL confirmed that the airport has now been completed and is ready for domestic operations. RACL has extended the opportunity to domestic airlines—Maldivian, Villa Air, and Manta Air—to begin commercial flight services to the airport.
The Muli Airport features a runway that is 1,200 metres in length and 30 metres in width. The total cost of the development project was MVR 221 million.
