Sheraton Maldives celebrates seven Kurimagu Leadership Programme graduates

Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa has celebrated the graduation of seven associates from Marriott International’s Kurimagu Leadership Programme, reaffirming its commitment to developing the next generation of Maldivian hospitality leaders. Representing Finance, Food & Beverage, Human Resources, Engineering, and Housekeeping, the graduates completed the intensive 12-month leadership journey designed to equip high-potential Maldivian talent with the skills, confidence, and experience to take on future leadership roles.

The graduation ceremony was attended by a delegation of Marriott International APEC leaders, highlighting the organisation’s continued investment in developing local talent across the Maldives. Among those in attendance were Silvio Rosenberger, Vice President, Operations – APEC and Market Vice President – Maldives, and Mark Fletcher, Senior Director of Human Resources Operations, alongside other regional leaders, whose presence underscored the importance of cultivating future hospitality leaders and supporting career growth within Marriott International.

Created exclusively for the Maldives market, Kurimagu is Marriott International’s flagship leadership development initiative for local talent. The year-long curriculum combines in-person and virtual learning, mentorship, cross-property exposure, practical business projects, and engagement with senior leaders, all guided by Marriott’s Leadership Essentials: Be Curious, Be Courageous, and Be Connected.

The initiative reflects Marriott International’s long-term commitment to nurturing homegrown talent while building a strong and sustainable leadership pipeline for the Maldivian hospitality industry.

Since joining the initiative in its inaugural cohort, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa has steadily expanded its participation, growing from four graduates in Cohort I to seven graduates in Cohort II, with 12 associates now enrolled in Cohort III, which is the resort’s largest cohort yet. Overall, Sheraton Maldives has produced 11 Kurimagu graduates, with 10 continuing to build their careers within the resort, demonstrating the initiative’s lasting impact on talent retention and leadership development.

Beyond graduation, Kurimagu continues to create meaningful career opportunities for its participants. Among this year’s success stories is Abdulla Sihaan, who progressed from Assistant Human Resources Manager to Human Resources Manager following his participation in Cohort II, exemplifying how the leadership journey empowers associates to grow into positions of greater responsibility and leadership.

A defining feature of this year’s cohort was the cross-exposure experience across Marriott International properties in the Maldives, where participants gained valuable insights into different operational environments, leadership styles, and best practices. The experience encouraged collaboration, broadened perspectives, and strengthened professional networks, enabling participants to return with fresh ideas and a deeper understanding of the business.

“Kurimagu is more than a leadership development programme. It is an investment in the future of Maldivian hospitality,” said Greg Allan, General Manager of Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa. “Watching our associates grow in confidence, embrace new challenges, and step into stronger leadership roles is incredibly rewarding. By developing our own talent, we are creating meaningful career pathways while contributing to a stronger and more sustainable future for our people, our resort, and the hospitality industry in the Maldives.”
