Siyam World Maldives protects marine life with coral restoration projects

Siyam World Maldives is committed to promoting sustainability and preserving the beauty of our oceans, protecting marine life, and reducing the environmental impact in line with Sun Siyam Resorts group-wide sustainability program Sun Siyam Cares.

Siyam World continues to drive sustainability initiatives forward, with the most significant project being a coral restoration effort in the house reef. The coral frames are carefully put in place by resort staff and guests, providing a habitat for broken coral pieces and allowing them to grow into an artificial reef structure.

The in-house local Marine Biologist Mariyam Thuhafa (Thuhu) and her team take care of the coral, ensuring full growth potential and thus increasing the coral and fish population in the resort’s house reef which relies on this crucial project. Through the coral restoration initiative, guests can actively engage in conserving Maldives’ natural resources, by planting corals and learning how to responsibly interact with the environment, hotel guests can actually make a difference.

Additionally, Siyam World hosts Marine Workshops every week that cover essential sustainability topics around coral health, marine biodiversity and the Maldivian marine ecosystems, providing guests with an excellent opportunity to learn more about marine life conservation. As part of this commitment, the resort has also participated in “Maldives for the Oceans,” a Parley activity aimed at protecting our oceans which was practiced on June 17th, Maldives-wide. The aim of this initiative is to remove plastic waste and debris from the coastlines and raise awareness about the importance of keeping our oceans clean.

The event was supported by local communities and organisations, and the team at Siyam World went for a beach clean-up and awareness session at nearby local island Manadhoo to encourage individuals to take responsibility for their impact on the environment.

By working with organisations like Parley, Siyam World prospects to make a positive impact on our planet and ensure that future generations can enjoy the beauty of our oceans.

“We are extremely proud to launch this coral restoration project as part of our commitment to sustainability,” said Ausy Waseem, the Resort Manager of Siyam World Maldives.

“We believe that it is our responsibility to protect and preserve the natural beauty of the Maldives for generations to come and are delighted to offer our guests the opportunity to participate in this important initiative and contribute to the preservation of our planet.”

Additionally, tree planting is another key element of the resort’s sustainability program. The resort plants trees to address issues like deforestation and climate change. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and help combat climate change, and also provide valuable habitats for wildlife. Siyam World’s tree-planting initiative supports the protection and regeneration of natural habitats, leading to the development of a more sustainable environment.

Siyam World’s sustainability initiatives are playing a vital role in reducing the resort’s environmental impact. Through marine workshops, reef clean-ups, tree planting, and sustainability information sessions, the resort inspires guests to contribute to conservation efforts actively.
