
Maldives records over 630,000 tourists in Q1 2025; 5.8% year-on-year hike
A total of 667,730 tourists have visited the Maldives so far in 2025, reflecting a 5.8% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism.
The ministry reported that 632,418 tourists arrived by the end of March, with 35,312 tourists during the first five days of April. The arrivals in April marks a 31.5% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2024.
The average daily tourist arrival now stands at approximately 7,000, according to the ministry.
Countries contributing the highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives in 2025 are:
- China – 76,674 tourists (11.5% of total arrivals)
- United Kingdom – 70,561 tourists (10.6%)
- Russia – 70,538 tourists (10.6%)
- Italy – 59,978 tourists (9%)
- Germany – 47,470 tourists (7%)
Other key source markets include India, France, the United States, Switzerland, and Poland.
Accommodation preferences among the tourists during this period were as follows:
- 69% stayed in resorts
- 25% stayed in guesthouses
The government has set a target of attracting 2.5 million tourist arrivals in 2025.
