Sun Siyam Olhuveli marks Labour Day with Leadership Gemba Walk
In recent celebration of International Labor Day last 01 May, Sun Siyam Olhuveli’s leadership team stepped into the heart of daily operations through a purposeful Gemba Walk, embracing a hands-on approach to better understand the people behind the experience.
Rather than observing from a distance, leaders immersed themselves in real roles across the resort. Director of Human Resources, Ahmed Shazeen, stepped behind the bar as a barman, engaging with guests and experiencing the pace of frontline service. Operations Manager, Ibrahim Baasith, took on the role of a pastry chef, working alongside the culinary team to understand the precision and creativity required in the kitchen. General Manager Hassan Adil and Director of Operations Mohamed Ali stepped into the role of Chef de Partie, joining the kitchen brigade and experiencing the intensity and coordination that define culinary service at the resort. Across the island, other leaders joined housekeeping rounds, security inspections, watersports guide, kitchen preparations, and engineering tasks, each stepping into the rhythm of the resort.

The experience unfolded through open conversations and genuine curiosity. Leaders engaged directly with team members, asking simple yet meaningful questions such as what challenges they face, what could make their day easier, and what happens when something does not go as planned. These exchanges revealed valuable insights, offering a clearer understanding of daily realities while strengthening trust across the team.

“This was not about checking processes, but about listening, learning, and showing respect to the people who bring our resort to life every day,” shared Hassan Adil, General Manager at Sun Siyam Olhuveli. “International Labor Day reminds us that our greatest strength lies in our people, and this experience allowed us to walk alongside them. Today is a reminder that leadership is not just about direction, but about being present.”

The celebration also reflected the resort’s ongoing commitment to a people first culture, where growth is nurtured through understanding and shared purpose. From seasoned team members to those just beginning their journey, every conversation reinforced a simple truth — great hospitality is built on genuine human connection.

As part of the Lifestyle Collection under the House of Siyam, Sun Siyam Olhuveli continues to place its people at the centre of its story. Moments like these go beyond a single day. They shape a culture where every individual feels seen, supported, and inspired to grow, creating a workplace that is as enriching as the extraordinary experiences it delivers to guests.
