Tourism ministry warns of action over unpaid resort rents and fines
The Ministry of Tourism has announced that enforcement action will be taken against parties that fail to pay rent and fines owed on properties leased for tourism development.
In a statement issued on Monday, the ministry said it had decided to proceed with measures against leaseholders who have not fulfilled their financial obligations under the Tourism Act and related regulations.
According to the ministry, the action will target parties operating tourism properties who have outstanding lease rent and penalty payments, as well as operators who have suspended operations without obtaining authorisation from the ministry while continuing to owe payments under their lease agreements.
The ministry stated that all leaseholders are required to comply with the terms of their agreements and settle outstanding amounts owed to the state.
It called on parties leasing islands, land and other properties for tourism purposes to pay all lease rent, fines and other dues in accordance with their contractual obligations.
The ministry noted that the Tourism Act grants it the authority to take action against leaseholders who fail to make required payments.
Under existing legislation, the ministry may reclaim tourism properties and impose penalties where operators fail to meet lease payment obligations.
The announcement did not specify the number of leaseholders currently in default or the timeline for any enforcement measures.
The ministry said the action would be taken in accordance with the Tourism Act and the regulations governing tourism leases.
