China’s Sichuan Airlines to begin Maldives flights on Aug 29

Sichuan Airlines, a prominent player in China’s aviation industry, is embarking on an exciting venture by introducing a brand-new flight route to the picturesque Maldives. Commencing operations on August 29, the airline will offer a convenient schedule of three weekly flights, connecting Chengdu and Male’. Anticipating the surging demand for travel to this breathtaking destination, Sichuan Airlines has strategically designed a flight frequency that caters to a diverse range of travel preferences. With three flights per week, passengers can now enjoy increased flexibility and convenience when planning their trips to the Maldives. Recognising the significance of providing seamless services to its passengers, Sichuan Airlines has selected Villa Travels as its ground handling agent at Velana International Airport in Male. Renowned for its exceptional ground services and extensive expertise in the field, Villa Travels will extend assistance to passengers upon their arrival in the Maldives. From efficient luggage handling to addressing inquiries and offering essential travel support, Villa Travels will ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience for all travellers. After a three-year break due to COVID-19, China has once again emerged as a dominant force in the Maldives’ tourism industry, surpassing Germany to secure its position as the fourth-largest tourism market for the exotic archipelago. According to official data released by the Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism, over 74,000 Chinese tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year. This surge in visitors has propelled China up the rankings for the second time in a month, overtaking Italy’s fifth position on July 1. In June, China was placed sixth, but its rapid ascent showcases the increasing popularity of the Maldives among Chinese travellers. Only two Chinese airlines currently operate flights to the Maldives, with Beijing Capital operating weekly charter flights and China Eastern operating scheduled flights to the Maldives on every Saturday.
