Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi appoints David Estellés as Sustainability Manager

Maldives, December 2023 – Fairmont Maldives, Sirru Fen Fushi has announced the appointment of David Estellés as the resort’s new Sustainability Manager. In this key role, David will drive the resort’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable practices, reinforcing Fairmont Maldives, Sirru Fen Fushi’s dedication to preserving the natural beauty and ecological balance of the Maldives, leading the private island hideaway’s sustainability initiatives and overseeing its various sustainability programmes.

David brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted passion for sustainability to his new position at Fairmont Maldives. Born in Valencia, Spain, he studied Marine Science in his hometown, before attending Universidad de La Laguna for his Master’s degree in Marine Biology, Biodiversity, and Conservation. Following his studies, David worked in various parts of the world, with his roles spanning across environmental protection, preservation, restoration and research. In his previous role as a Marine Biologist and Sustainability Coordinator at Six Senses Seychelles, he was in charge of managing the reef restoration and turtle monitoring projects, developing educational programmes for local schools and collaborating with local stakeholders in marine conservation.

The appointment comes at an exciting time for the resort as the team recently achieved an impressive 87% in the Green Globe certification for its dedication to sustainable operations and development. Under David’s expertise, Fairmont Maldives, Sirru Fen Fushi will continue its pioneering sustainable initiatives, including the Sustainability Lab – the first resort-based recycling centre; the Coralarium, a spectacular coral regeneration project and underwater art gallery that is home to more than 100 different fish species; and the Fairmont School Award Scheme, wherein students from local schools in Shaviyani Atoll are invited to participate in educational workshops on environmental conservation.
