Gili Lankanfushi Unwraps Christmas and New Year Festivities

Gili Lankanfushi Maldives has unwrapped its Christmas and New Year line up. From cricket on the beach to gingerbread water villa crafting along with a series of festive feasts, Gili Lankanfushi prepares for the holiday season.

Themed ‘On the Borders of the Laccadive Sea’, the festivities are inspired by the Maldivian and neighbouring Indian and Sri Lankan culture. Starting on 22nd December, the celebrations will run till 4th January 2023. Christmas celebrations include gingerbread house-making classes where guests will recreate a Gili water villa, all in biscuit. Followed by a special tree-lighting ceremony on the beach. Tennis matches, surf lessons with Santa Claus, cricket on the beach, snorkeling with turtles, a New Year’s Day dolphin cruise and a football tournament are on offer for those with an athletic spirit. Younger guests can enjoy Christmas movies at Gili cinema, beach story-telling as well as have Christmas gifts delivered to their villa by Santa on a speedboat.

As for the cultural side of the celebrations, a Maldivian Maahifun tree-lighting ceremony, Maldivian woodcraft, traditional fishing and rope macramé making are on the agenda. Indian henna painting, Kalaripayattu classes, one of the world’s oldest forms of martial arts originated in Kerala, highlights the Indian culture. Younger guests can take part in Fenkulhi, an activity in which coloured water is thrown at one another in a playful manner. Sri Lankan influences include curry making classes, a ‘Tea in Ceylon’ masterclass and Sri Lankan wine-tasting at Gili’s private wine cellar.

An array of gastronomic experiences ranging from a pan-Laccadive curry feast to a Mediterranean spice souk bazaar will be in store for the holidaymakers. A special blind-dining experience will transport diners to a secret island location for the Gili Lankanfushi’s sensory supper. A variety of new cocktails will also be on the menu.
