Maldives cuts processing time for visa extensions via digital platform

Maldives Immigration has introduced changes to the process for extending tourist visas, effective from Thursday.

The agency said the updates are part of the ‘Maldives 2.0’ programme and are aimed at improving application procedures for visitors.

Under the revised system, information already recorded in the Immigration database will be reused, removing the need for repeated data entry. Passport details and accommodation records will be retrieved automatically.

Applications for visa extensions can now be submitted through the IMUGA portal. Users can access their records by entering a passport number or uploading the bio-data page of the passport.

Applicants are required to submit a passport-sized photograph taken within the past 12 months.

Immigration stated that submission of the passport bio-data page will only be required in certain cases, such as when a passport has been renewed or when there are differences in the recorded data.

Tourists who change their place of stay during their visit will also be able to update accommodation details through the system.

The agency said processing time for visa extensions has been reduced to a maximum of 48 hours.
