Over 966,000 tourists visit Maldives in May; total nears 1 million

A total of 135,614 tourists visited the Maldives in May, bringing the total number of arrivals for the year to 966,358, according to figures released by the Ministry of Tourism today.

The May 2025 figure reflects a 13.1% increase compared to the 119,873 tourists who arrived in the same month last year. Overall, tourist arrivals so far this year have increased by 8.3% compared to the 892,243 arrivals recorded during the same period in 2024.

On average, 4,375 tourists visited the Maldives daily over the past five months.

Accommodation preferences among tourists this year show:

  • 71.5% of visitors (690,580 individuals) stayed at resorts
  • 23.1% (223,428) stayed at guesthouses
  • 2.9% (28,099) chose hotels
  • 2.4% (23,577) opted for safaris

The top five source markets for tourists to the Maldives this year are:

  • China: 115,802 visitors (12% increase compared to last year)
  • Russia: 105,059 visitors (10.9% increase)
  • United Kingdom: 98,695 visitors (10.2% increase)
  • Italy: 81,545 visitors (8.4% increase)
  • Germany: 73,772 visitors (7.6% increase)

The government has set a target of 2.5 million tourist arrivals for 2025.
